Pathways School Curriculum Vision
A curriculum to develop confidence, independence and healthy relationships.
Intent
At Pathways School we want all of our students to have a knowledge and understanding of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as we believe that being Science ‘literate’ is not just an advantage but a necessity in modern day society. Through carefully selected knowledge, our students are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about the world around them. Through the Pathways Science curriculum, students will leave the school with the skills to critique, analyse and draw assumptions in different work and social contexts using their key knowledge of key scientific methods and inquiry.
Our high expectations and aspirations
All lessons are delivered using an “I do, we do, you do” lesson structure which allows us to:
- Be explicit with the knowledge that we choose to teach
-
Ensure that all of our lessons support the delivery of the intended curriculum
By the end of KS2, students will learn about the three different sciences in a way that inspires them and allows them to be inquisitive about the world around them. Ideas and concepts around research and investigation are introduced to encourage a way of thinking that respects living organisms and the physical environment.
By the end of KS3, all students continue to develop their understanding of the skills required to think like a scientist and question the world around them. Through careful planning, the curriculum is defined by knowledge expectations that allows students to develop scientific attitudes, experimental skills and the ability to make assumptions based upon scientific evidence.
By the end of KS4, students will have continued to study three sciences by progressively building upon their prior knowledge. The Year 10 curriculum has been specifically designed to bridge the transition between a broad scientific knowledge and specialisation in Year 11. Students will leave Year 10 having an in-depth understanding of all three disciplines and the skills required for a specialised scientific inquiry at Year 11 (Biology). In Year 11, students will build upon the Key knowledge delivered in Year 10, KS3 and KS2 to specialise in Biology. Through the Pathways Science curriculum, students will leave the school with the skills to critique, analyse and draw assumptions in different work and social contexts using their key knowledge of key scientific methods and inquiry.
