Pathways School Curriculum Vision
A curriculum to develop confidence, independence and healthy relationships
English Intent
At Pathways School, we want all our students to be confident writers, accomplished readers and effective communicators. Our students will leave Pathways having been exposed to a significant range of relevant literature that will support how students shape their understanding of the world around them.
Our high expectations and aspirations
All lessons are delivered using an “I do, we do, you do” lesson structure which allows us to:
- Be explicit with the knowledge that we choose to teach
-
Ensure that all of our lessons support the delivery of the intended curriculum
By the end of KS2, through a broad range of carefully chosen texts that explore a range of literary genres such as science fiction and adventure. students will have a clear understanding of narrative structures;characterisation;chronological and non-chronological structures.
By the end of KS3, students will have accessed a broad range of carefully chosen texts that explore modern global issues such as climate change and discrimination. Students will read both contemporary and 19th century world literature whilst focusing on the knowledge required to progress to the Entry Level 3 English qualification at the end of Year 9.
By the end of KS4, students will apply their underpinning knowledge of the English curriculum to a range of different workplace and social contexts. Through bespoke reading, writing, SPaG and Speaking and Listening sequences of learning our students will learn, develop and recall the knowledge required to access the world of work beyond Pathways.
